“There is a pre-Code Hollywood movie scene from 1930, where Marlene Dietrich (dressed in a tuxedo) pulls a flower out of a woman’s hair and then kisses her on the mouth. It was the first time a leading lady kissed another woman on screen. It was so sensual and powerful – I wanted to be Marlene in that scene. I wanted to be the woman. I wanted to be the flower.”
